Book buddies program

University of the Pacific is committed to its role as a strong community partner in Sacramento, San Francisco and Stockton. We are working to help address the challenges confronting Northern California, and we take pride in celebrating the successes we achieve in collaboration with our neighbors.

University of the Pacific is part of the diverse and dynamic communities of Sacramento, San Francisco and Stockton. We would like to congratulate the city of Stockton for being recognized with the All-America City Award for the fifth time in 2018. This award from the National Civic League recognizes the work of communities in using inclusive civic engagement, local innovation and cross-sector collaboration.

Community involvement is one of Pacific's core values. Recognizing that the university's future is tightly intertwined with the future of the three communities where we are located, we have sharpened our focus on local engagement through the launch and strengthening of our various community-oriented initiatives.

  • Beyond Our Gates, an award-winning program launched in Stockton, is an ambitious initiative targeted at improving the social and economic well-being of the Central Valley region.

  • Dugoni School of Dentistry dental clinics offer a wide range of dental procedures and services. The world-class faculty includes general dentists and specialists of every type. Dugoni's clinics provide approximately $500,000 of uncompensated dental care on an annual basis and another $10 million of care at substantially reduced prices to assist the culturally and socio-economically diverse population of the San Francisco Bay Area.

  • Pioneering McGeorge School of Law legal clinics deliver quality pro bono representation to underserved community members in immigration law, elder and health care law and bankruptcy. In the Immigration Law Clinic, students provide in-depth legal assistance to low-income clients on immigration matters, including VAWA, adjustment of status, specialized visas, as well as representation before the Immigration Court in removal proceedings. The Clinic has represented immigrants from Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Nigeria, Egypt, the Philippines, Turkmenistan and Russia.
